With 11 months until the midterm elections, two veteran election watchers have put Teague on the endangered list. The Cook Political Report, named for Charlie Cook, says Teague’s race is a toss up. Stuart Rothenberg puts the district on his “dangerous dozen” of House seats.

Rothenberg writes:

Rep. Harry Teague faces former Rep. Steve Pearce (R), who gave up his seat in 2008 to run for Senate. Teague has tried to vote his district, but he isn’t being helped by Speaker Nancy Pelosi (Calif.) and Obama, who drew 49 percent of the district’s vote in 2008. Definitely a midterm problem for Democrats.

Political Wire notes that 39 of the 50 most competitive House seats are held by Democrats.

The Cook Political Report lists New Mexico’s 1st Congressional District, held by freshman Democrat Martin Heinrich as “likely Democratic.” This means the seat is “not considered competitive at this point but have the potential to become engaged.”

The 3rd Congressional District, held by freshman Democrat Ben Ray Lujan, is considered a safely Democratic seat.
