As if we didn’t already know, a new Albuquerque Journal poll is in to tell us that the economy is Numero Uno in the minds of voters four weeks out from the Nov. 4 election.  And get this: The U.S. government is thinking about taking direct ownership stakes in banks as the credit markets refuse to unfreeze. Closer to home, Santa Fe Community College students are grieving the loss of one of their own — a student who died in a classroom this week. And the Farmington Daily-Times thinks the Four Corners region’s conservative bent is the reason for its relative financial health at a time of crisis for much of the rest of the country.
