A staffer for Congressman Martin Heinrich, D-N.M., will meet with anti-gay marriage activist Bob King according to the Washington D.C. blog DCist.com. The Washington D.C. city council voted to approve gay marriage earlier this month and King is a part of Stand4Marriage, a conservative Christian group which opposes gay marriage. Congress has the authority to review Washington D.C. city laws.
King wants Congress to step in to allow a citywide vote on gay marriage.
As DCist writes:
According to a list provided to us by King, he already has a few meetings set up on the Hill, starting as early as tomorrow and stretching into next week. So far, he’s set to meet with staffers in the offices of Sen. Patrick Leahy (D-Vt.), Sen. Richard Shelby (R-Al.), Rep. Martin Heinrich (D-NM), Rep. Bob Inglis (R-SC), Rep. Jerry Moran (R-Kan.) and Rep. Adam Smith (D-Wash.).
Earlier this year, Congressman Martin Heinrich signed onto a bill to repeal the Defense of Marriage Act.
