Politico profiles Johnson

Last week, Politico profiled potential future New Mexico governor, and current lieutenant governor, Diane Denish. This week, the online news Web site profiled Gary Johnson, an ex-governor and potential future Presidential candidate.

“I’m finding myself really angry over spending and the deficit,” the libertarian Republican Johnson told Politico.

The Politico piece calls Johnson “the next Ron Paul,” referring to the libertarian Republican congressman from Texas who made an insurgent, but unsuccessful, run for the Republican presidential nomination. Johnson endorsed Paul last year.

Johnson is the honorary chairman of the Our America Initiative, and is being coy about a possible 2012 Presidential run, citing legal restrictions because of the 501(c)(4) status of the group.

However, he said that he will be seen in Iowa and New Hampshire, two key states for anyone looking at a Presidential run.

David Weigel, at our sister site, The Washington Independent, says he thinks Johnson “might be the best-liked politician among Paul supporters…”

Weigel also pointed us to this video of Johnson making a speech at the 2008 Rally for the Republic, held during the  Republican National Convention in Minneapolis:
