Hey, I still can't find much good to say about a SouthWest Organizing Project employee parading as a journalist, but I can at least compliment the headline – it describes “Desert Rock” as a “coal plant” instead of just promoting the Desert Rock brand name.

A real savvy activist would appreciate some neurocognitive nuance in how she uses words — desert rocks rarely pose a risk to anybody, until somebody tries to throw them, or burn them. I would be inclined to think headline references to “Desert Rock” without the descriptive “coal plant” might be an effort to brand opposition campaigns, but more likely it's pure naivete – the kind we see when a school sports fan translates mass rally cheering techniques to another genre.

Now if you want to get down and dirty, Ms SWOP Activist Marjoree Childress, each time you write about Desert Rock Coal plant, why not name the COMPANY that owns the project?

Oh, and by the way — there is no “Desert Rock coal plant.” It's a proposed plant. How about “Coal plant proposal hits another stumbling block”???

Or are you one of those activists who prays there will be wars and dirty industries so you can have something to oppose, for the benefit of your self-image as a rescuer?
