Gwyneth’s morning reading: Snail pie and other delicacies

By | 12.28.09 | 3:01 pm

Yes, this is Trip Jenning’s regular feature, but he’s on vacation this week. So in his place, I’ll tell you what I’m reading this morning…er…afternoon.

First: “Snail Pie Cures Malnutrition.” Yes, snail pie. (It’s a slow news day, people!) That link is to a snippet from Mother Jones that was posted a couple weeks ago, but I just ran across it this morning. It reminded me of a conversation I had several years ago with then-City Councilor Martin Heinrich, who told me all about how he had been gathering, cleaning and eating the snails from his yard. I admire his epicurean spirit.

And continuing with non-politics related stories, Bob Quick has a story in today’s New Mexican about how the recession is affecting artists. (Hint: badly.)

Oh, back to politics now, governors around the country are preparing their state of the-state addresses. Gov. Bill Richardson is expected to give his speech on Jan. 19, the first day of the legislative session.

What else am I reading? How about Wonkette’s take on the links between U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions (R-Texas) and indicted banker Allen Stanford? Awful! Just awful. (Warning: snark factor high. Very high.)

And this just in: The Saudi arm of Al Qaeda has claimed responsibility for the attempted terrorist attack on Christmas Day. According to the New York Times, the group “…said it was in retaliation for recent American-backed attacks on its members in Yemen.”
