On the opening day of the state Legislature, Tuesday, Jan. 19, Gov. Bill Richardson is scheduled to deliver his annual state of the state address, in which he’ll likely lay the basics of his legislative agenda.
What would you do if you were in his shoes? KUNM wants to know; the station is soliciting commentaries from listeners.
“If you were leading New Mexico in the current recession, what would you make your top priority?” KUNM asks.
“The state of the state commentary series is your chance to say what you think about the past year and what you would focus on to move the state forward. Maybe it’s health care, transportation, jobs or renewable energy development. Are there other issues that aren’t getting enough attention in Santa Fe?”
Commentaries are due on Monday, January 25th.
Here are the guidelines:
A governor’s state of the state address covers a broad range of issues. Keep this in mind while writing your commentary. KUNM is looking for perspectives that take into account how the state is doing overall – both positive and negative. Since the commentaries are much shorter than the governor’s address, you will want to use just a few specifics to emphasize your overall impressions. The commentary should be in your voice. What do YOU think went badly or well in 2009 and what would YOU prioritize in 2010 to move the state forward?
You may mention the organization that you work for but we are really looking for commentaries that reflect your personal feelings about what is best for the future of New Mexico.
Your commentary must be less than 3 and a half minutes long. When you time out your commentary, please keep in mind that you will be reading at a relaxed pace – as if you were talking to a friend. If your commentary is selected for broadcast, you will need to come to the KUNM studios in Albuquerque or Santa Fe to record.
Also…
KUNM must follow certain legal guidelines in our programming. We can help you work on this if your commentary is selected for air. We can not air content that includes profanity or statements that could be considered libel or slander of another person. There can be no calls to action (ie – vote for someone). You may encourage people to get involved politically, but it can only be a general statement.
If you have any questions, call the KUNM News Department at 505-277-8016.
Please email your commentaries to commentary@kunm.org. Include your name, contact number, city where you live and profession.
