Roughly one quarter of University of New Mexico students are unimpressed with the state’s flagship public school, according to a survey that questioned college students about their higher education experiences.
A resolution introduced last week by Rep. Zachary J. Cook, R-Ruidoso, would require that results of all the votes taken on the House Floor be posted online within 24 hours of each vote. HR 3 is expected to be heard in the House Rules Committee Friday.
“In the digital age, a policy to post roll call votes on the web is long overdue,” Cook said in a news release. “Doing so would increase transparency in our legislative process and allow constituents greater and faster access to their legislator’s voting record.”
Previous attempts in the House have failed.
Posting the votes online would give the public the opportunity to view how state lawmakers voted on measures before them.
“This should be a non-partisan issue about open government,” Cook said. “It is my hope that those who opposed this measure in the past will embrace it this year.”
