Special session blues?

Kate Nash of the Santa Fe New Mexican gives us the latest on Friday’s special session in her blog, Green Chile Chatter.

And it looks like a lot hinges on the money.

Nash notes:

Seems like there is a lot riding on the new revenue projections slated to come out on Tuesday of this week. Not enough money, and Gov. Bill Richardson’s plans to hand out cash could fizzle. So could his hopes to get health insurance to the 50,000 kids in our state without it. Just enough money, and the governor might score a small win in what many speculate is one of, if not his last, Legislative sessions.

Senate Democrats met Sunday night in Belen to form a plan for Friday, which is when the session kicks off. No overt plans yet to simply adjourn and go home without considering Richardson’s proposals.

"You can’t do anything if you don’t have any money," said Senate President Pro Tem Tim Jennings, a Roswell Democrat. Once the projections are out, he said "we’re going to look and see what we can afford."
