House, Senate take to the hardwood for charity

Tonight, the House and Senate and will adjourn early– but not to go home. The lawmakers will instead take to the court to play a basketball for charity and bragging rights.

The game takes place at the St. Michael’s High School gymnasium at 7 p.m. and the entrance fee is $5. The proceeds will go to the University of New Mexico Cancer Center.

Former Santa Fe Reporter staff writer Dave Maass popped into The Independent’s live blog today to tell us, “The House ALWAYS wins the basketball game.”

Maass also has the highlights, sort of, of last year’s game, where the House won 61-51, “mostly because of the deft ballwork of Reps. Jose Campos, Thomas Garcia and Bill O’Neill.”

The House will be wearing New Mexico State University jerseys while the Senate will wear University of New Mexico jerseys.
