Pearce vows to repeal health care reform

Former U.S. Congressman Steve Pearce has signed a Club for Growth pledge to repeal health care reform — even before health care reform passes Congress. Pearce is once again running for Congress in the 2nd Congressional District after an unsuccessful bid for Senate in 2008.

“This health care bill is bad for America,” Pearce said in a statement. “If it passes, I will work with others in Congress to repeal those parts of the bill that will do the most harm to our economy.”

In 2008, the Club for Growth aired ads supporting then Rep. Steve Pearce in the Republican Senate primary between him and Heather Wilson.

The Club for Growth’s support was blamed for the eventual loss of the Senate seat to Democrat Tom Udall; many argued that had the more moderate Wilson won the primary, she could have beaten Udall.

There is another Republican candidate in the 2nd Congressional District race, Cliff Pirtle of Roswell, who is considered a long shot.

The lone Democrat in the race is incumbent Representative Harry Teague.

Both Republican candidates in the 3rd Congressional District race, Adam Kokesh and Tom Mullins, have signed the pledge. So far, neither Pirtle nor 1st Congressional District Republican candidate Jon Barela has signed the pledge.
