Fewer bills introduced this session

The 2010 legislative session will be noteworthy for a lot of reasons, among them the low number of bills lawmakers have introduced. The Legislative Council Service (LCS) says there have been a total of 571 bills introduced which is the lowest of any session dating back to at least 1996.

Lawmakers will tell you the reason is likely because there is no money. Especially in a 30-day session which is supposed to be limited to the budget, finding the time and the will to pass laws isn’t easy. The LCS says the House brought 292 bills, and the other 279.
