An e-mail blast to supporters from Santa Fe mayor David Coss’s campaign highlights his opponent’s tie to the Santa Fe Tea Party.

The Tea Party movement is a libertarian movement and Santa Fe is considered by many to be a safely liberal area.

“We were just forwarded a revealing email that was sent out by Kepler’s deputy campaign manager,” the message from Coss’s campaign manager Sandra Wechsler read. “Did you know he’s a member of the Santa Fe Tea Party?”

The e-mail from Asenath Kepler campaign manager Ed Brown that was sent out Tuesday afternoon read:

We have a fiscal Conservative Republican running for Mayor – Asenath Kepler. She has a great shot of winning. The last Republican Mayor was in 1948. Request that you send the following to your e-mail list. We are requesting donations of at least $10…

I am her Deputy Campaign Manager and I am also active in the Santa Fe Tea Party.

Thanks for your help ~ Ed Brown

The Coss e-mail asked supporters to stand by Coss, a “lifelong Democrat” and asked for a donation of $25.
