Richardson: Special session to start Wednesday

By | 02.18.10 | 1:30 pm

IMG_3527State legislators (and Independent staffers!) will be back at the Roundhouse next week–Gov. Bill Richardson said at a press conference that he would call a special session to begin next Wednesday at noon.

The special session would not include a long time priority of Richardson in domestic partnerships but would include the budget, GO bonds and sponge bonds.

He also warned “advocacy groups” to not to send him ideas for what they want on his call (or agenda), as he wanted the special session to finish as quickly as possible.

Richardson also cited some successes in the legislative session, including a Hispanic Education Act and a health care bill that would mandate that 85 percent of premiums go toward health care and not profit.

However, when asked what grade he would give the legislature for the session, he said for non-budgetary items, he would give it an A-. For budgetary items, he paused.

Eric Witt, governor’s deputy chief of staff, jumped in to say, “Incomplete.”
