Pete Domenici Jr. is ahead of Las Cruces District Attorney Susana Martinez by nearly 18 points— in a poll that was conducted before Domenici admitted to using cocaine and marijuana as a young man.The poll was conducted by NMSU’s Political Research Skills and Government program.

According to a press release from the Domenici campaign:

In response to the first question regarding name identification, not surprisingly, Domenici, the son of six term U.S. Senator Pete Domenici, was recognized by 36.3 percent of primary voters, Allen Weh by 21.6 percent, Susana Martinez by 18.2 percent, Doug Turner by 16.7 percent, and Janice Arnold Jones by 7.9 percent

It was the second question that specifically asked respondents who they would vote for that showed Domenici the choice of 29.3 of voters, an amount that exceeded the combined voter preference totals of Martinez at 11.5 percent, Weh at 7.4 percent, Turner at 6.8 percent, and Arnold-Jones at 2.5 percent.
