After an independent expenditure group began airing radio ads attacking Democratic candidate Martin Heinrich, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) is ready to step in to attempt to counter the ads.
The DCCC is ready to air radio ads starting Friday in the 10 districts nationwide where Freedom’s Watch began airing radio ads attacking Democratic candidates — including New Mexico’s 1st Congressional District.
The DCCC accuses Freedom’s Watch of being too close to their Republican counterparts, the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC). In a press release, the DCCC says, "Freedom’s Watch is operating as the cash-strapped NRCC’s de facto independent expenditure campaign" and pledges to answer Freedom’s Watch’s ads with radio ads of their own.
The DCCC writes:
The DCCC Independent Expenditure (IE) today announced it will launch radio ads across the country responding to Freedom’s Watch latest bogus claims. Freedom’s Watch has put more deceptive radio ads on the air as part of the shady, soft money group’s plan to try to defeat Democratic congressional candidates.
The DCCC has also launched a website called The Real Freedom’s Watch which looks into who is funding the group.
As of yet, neither Darren White, the Republican candidate, nor Heinrich have begun any general election advertising.
