State elections director resigns

With three months to go before the June primary, the state’s elections director has resigned. A.J. Salazar quit his job as the state’s top elections officer Friday, effectively immediately, according to James Flores, spokesman for the Secretary of State’s Office. “We have no other information to offer at this time,” Flores said.

Salazar was hired in April 2009 for a job that paid him an annual salary of $95,000.In addition to overseeing elections, his duties included concentrating on the 2010 census, redistricting of precinct boundaries, administrative rules and various other policies.
