Democrat mayors Coss, Swisstack win reelection

In Santa Fe, Mayor David Coss held off two challengers and received 58 percent of the vote according to unofficial numbers. In Rio Rancho, Mayor Tom Swisstack was reelected with 73 percent of the vote according to the unofficial vote count.


Coss’ nearest election opponent, former city attorney and city manager Asenath Kepler received 34 percent of the vote in the unofficial numbers. City councilor Miguel Chavez received 8 percent of the vote.

The vote in Rio Rancho was a battle between Swisstack and former mayor Jim Owens. Swisstack more than doubled the amount of votes that Owens received.

Farmington mayor Bill Stanley chose not to run for reelection, so Farmington was assured a new mayor. The unofficial results showed that Tommy Roberts will be the next mayor of Farmington.

In Mesilla, near Las Cruces, voters ousted their mayor in a three-way race.
