National Republican Committee Chairman Pete Sessions, R-Texas, will be in Albuquerque on Sunday for a fundraiser to benefit Jon Barela, the Republican candidate in the 1st Congressional District. Sessions will appear at a breakfast rally, the day after the Republican pre-primary convention.

Barela will be facing incumbent Democrat Martin Heinrich in the general election. Neither has drawn a primary challenger, though a third party candidate, Alan Woodruff, has said that he will be running as a member of the Green Party.

Barela is part of the NRCC’s “Young Guns” program, designed to help top Republican recruits.
