Governor Bill Richardson and First Lady Barbara Richardson will be on hand in Las Vegas to cheer on the University of New Mexico Lobos as they take on the San Diego State Aztecs tonight in the semifinals of the Mountain West Conference men’s basketball tournament. The Lobos, the number one seed in the tournament, are the number 8 ranked team in the nation according to both the Associated Press and USA Today/ESPN polls.

“I look forward to personally cheering on the Lobos tonight as they take on the Aztecs of San Diego State,” Governor Richardson said in a statement. “I want the team to know that they have made the entire State of New Mexico proud with their already record-breaking season.”

UNM is 29-3 this year, the highest winning percentage for a Lobos team this late in the season in the history of the school.

The Governor and First Lady will be in good company. According to KRQE, there were “probably 6,000 fans” of UNM at the Thomas and Mack Center yesterday for the Lobos’ 75-69 victory over Air Force. Add at least two to that number.
