Turner raises $400K

By | 04.13.10 | 5:32 pm

Republican gubernatorial candidate Doug Turner reported raising over $400,000 in the latest fundraising period. Nearly $200,000 of his fundraising haul was in the form of loans from D.W. Turner, the PR firm which Turner owns, to his campaign.

Turner finished the fundraising period with slightly more than $260,000 cash on hand.

The fundraising period ran from October to April 5, and the deadline for campaigns to file their campaign finance reports was yesterday.

Turner’s campaign now has more than $371,000 in campaign debt.

NMPolitics.net reported on the loans and correspondent payments from Turner’s campaign to DW Turner.

Turner’s campaign director, Carri Phillis, said the identical loans and expenditures recorded on the same days reflect the fact that D.W. Turner does media buys for all its clients, including the Turner campaign. When it does that, it spends its own money, which becomes a loan to the Turner campaign. The campaign then pays D.W. Turner back for the media buy.
