Pearce raises $277K in first quarter

Former Representative Steve Pearce announced that he raised $277,000 in the first three months of 2010, putting his money raised in this cycle over $1 million.

Pearce has more than $708,000 cash on hand in his bid to regain the 2nd Congressional seat, according to a press release from his campaign.

“I am humbled and thankful for the thousands of New Mexicans that have made contributions to our campaign,” Pearce said in a press release. “We feel great momentum on the campaign trail.”

Pearce is hoping to unseat Rep. Harry Teague, a freshman Democrat who won the seat over Ed Tinsley in 2008.

Pearce held the 2nd Congressional District seat from 2001-2009. Pearce ran for Senate in 2008 and lost to Tom Udall in the general election.

“Over the last nine months our campaign has raised over $1 million dollars and we are quickly closing the fundraising gap. Every day more New Mexicans and groups interested in growing the economy and creating jobs are throwing their support behind Steve Pearce,” Pearce campaign manager, Alicia Collins said in a release.

Today is the deadline for filing campaign finance reports for federal races like the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate. The Independent will report on the fundraising numbers as they are made available on the Federal Elections Commission Web site or provided to The Independent by the campaigns.
