Sens. Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M., Byron Dorgan, D-N.D., and Jay Rockefeller, D-W.V., all voiced their opposition to revenue-sharing with states in the offshore-drilling drilling proposal put forward by the White House last month.
“The fiscal consequences of such a loss would be devastating, particularly given the enormous demands on the federal Treasury and our need to reduce the deficit,” the trio wrote in a letter tho their colleague sin the Senate on Friday and quoted in the New York Times today.
The opposition from the three could put a potential monkey-wrench in plans for a comprehensive energy bill. The proposal is considered necessary to help break the 60-vote barrier needed to end a filibuster in the Senate.
