Bernco Commission candidate behind Eye on Albuquerque?

Is Bernalillo County Commission candidate Wayne Johnson one of the anonymous bloggers behind Eye on Albuquerque, an Albuquerque blog that focuses on local law enforcement and government? Johnson wouldn’t confirm or deny when the Albuquerque Journal’s Dan McKay asked him about it. McKay also asked Johnson if he thought anonymous blogging was appropriate for an elected official.

Eye on Albuquerque, has a distinct right-of-center flavor, with seems to match Johnson’s general views, but we have no evidence that Johnson writes for the blog. (Do you? E-mail tips@newmexicoindependent.com)

From the story:

“My question is, ‘Why would it matter?’ ” Johnson said when I asked him about it. “I think probably the anonymity of the blog is there for a reason, and I’m not at liberty to say anything I know about it.”

I also talked to Johnson about whether he thought it would be appropriate for an elected official to blog anonymously.

“In a hypothetical situation, I wouldn’t be writing something in any blog in any situation that would be contrary to my public statements,” he said.

He added that anonymous blogging can bring transparency to government.

Johnson, a Republican, faces Democrat Janet Saiers in the general election this fall.
