Google contributed $41 million in economic activity in New Mexico last year, according to a 62-page report the tech giant released this week.
That number includes more than $500,000 donated to 10 nonprofits and what it says was $40 million in economic activity generated by those who benefited from Google’s various advertising programs, the report says.
But Google estimates that it helped generate $880 million in economic activity in Colorado, $3.1 billion in Texas, $1.2 billion in Arizona and $640 million in Utah.
Hmmm. Looks like the tech giant doesn’t have much of a presence in New Mexico after all.
As the San Francisco Chronicle noted Tuesday, the “study highlighting the Mountain View company’s contribution to the broader economy, a rare move by a major corporation, comes at a time when it’s facing growing criticism over privacy practices and alleged anti-competitive behavior from public interest groups, competitors and the government.
