I am writing today to announce the closure of the New Mexico Independent. After three and a half years of operation in New Mexico, the board of the American Independent News Network, has decided to shift publication of its news…
While environmental activists played their part yesterday during demonstrations at the capitol building, going so far as to dress up as solar panels and to sing the tune of “You Are My Sunshine,” their counterparts, the anti-cap-and-trade contingency who has…
Roughly one quarter of University of New Mexico students are unimpressed with the state’s flagship public school, according to a survey that questioned college students about their higher education experiences.
Doña Ana County District Attorney Susana Martinez leads former state party chair Allen Weh 41 to 30 percent with less than a week before the primary, shows a poll commissioned by New Mexico Politics With Joe Monahan and conducted by Dialing Services, LLC.
The poll of likely Republican voters differs from an Albuquerque Journal Poll conducted over a week ago that showed Weh led Martinez 31 percent to 30 percent. Since then, both candidates have aired negative ads and former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin endorsed Martinez at an event in Albuquerque.
The poll finds that Martinez leads among both Anglos and Hispanics, and in all three Congressional Districts—though by just 3 percentage points in Northern New Mexico’s 3rd Congressional District.
Martinez also leads among all age-groups. The only group that Weh leads among is, somewhat surprisingly, women, where he leads 35 percent to 30 percent.
The poll surveyed 771 likely primary voters by automatic phone calls on May 25th and has a margin of error of 3.53 percent. The crosstabs, since they are smaller groups, have larger margins of error though those are not disclosed in the crosstabs.
KOB-TV reporter Jeremy Jojola said on Twitter that a KOB poll would be released on the network’s 6 pm broadcast that shows a 10 percent lead by a Republican candidate, and also said that the “poll is very very interesing…especially the question on a Martinez vs. Denish scenario.”
KOB-TV used to commission monthly polls from SurveyUSA, though they have not done so for months.
The memo also does not say if the names were rotated during the calls, though that is a standard practice among political pollsters.
The polling memo, including crosstabs, is available below:
