Ron Paul, a Republican candidate for President in 2008, said in a recent interview that he has not yet decided whether he will run again in 2012, but that he thinks former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson would be a pretty good candidate.
“I guess the best one would be Johnson from New Mexico — Gary Johnson,” Ron Paul said in an interview with the conservative news website The Daily Caller.
David Boaz, the executive vice president of the libertarian Cato Institute, which has donated money to the New Mexico-based think tank the Rio Grande Foundation, was not very high on Johnson’s chances.
Boaz said, “Gary Johnson has a great libertarian record, but he doesn’t yet have much national recognition.”
Boaz floated the names of governors Mitch Daniels, R-Ind., and Chris Christie, R-N.J.
