A total of 28 percent of registered Democrats and Republicans voted in the June 1 primary elections, according to the official results from the Secretary of State’s office. The results of the primary elections are now official after being certified by the State Canvassing Board.

Out of a total of 923,792 Democrats and Republicans registered to vote in this election, 135,965 Democrats and 122,649 Republicans actually voted. Third-party voters and decline-to-state (also known as independents) are not eligible to vote in New Mexico’s primaries.

The State Canvassing Board certified the primary election results this afternoon.

“The primary canvass ran as smoothly as possible,” Secretary of State Mary Herrera said in a statement. “Advanced preparation, additional training, and proper coordination of all parties concerned contributed to our success. We expect much of the same for the General Election.”

Herrera is, of course, up for re-election this year and will face state Sen. Dianna Duran in the general election.

The official results are now available on the Secretary of State’s website.
