Carol Sloan is to be removed immediately from the Public Regulation Commission after the New Mexico Supreme Court granted an appeal from the state attorney general, KOB-TV reports.
In April, Sloan was found guilty of two felonies—aggravated battery and aggravated burglary after an altercation with a woman Sloan believed was having an affair with her husband. Sloan admitted in court to calling Brenda Yazzie a “toothless old whore” but denied striking Yazzie with a rock.
Sloan’s term was to end later this year. Theresa Becenti-Aguilar beat Hank Hughes, George Galanis, and Andrew Leo Lopez in the June 1 Democratic primary for District 4, which includes western and southern Santa Fe County and most of Northwest New Mexico.
Aguilar will face Republican candidate Gary J. Montoya, who was uncontested in his primary, this November.
