Janice Arnold-Jones receives frantic call from her workers at Kirtland

This morning Rep. Janice Arnold Jones, R-Albuquerque, a Department of Energy contractor, received a frantic phone call today from employees working for her at Kirtland Air Force Base after a shooting just off base at Emcore Corporation on Eubank Boulevard SE.

“They weren’t sure if it (the shooting) was on base,” Arnold-Jones told The Independent.  “They were wondering, ‘Is this a terrorist threat. Is this a terrorist attack?’”

As a Department of Energy contractor, some of Arnold-Jones’ employees spend half their time on base and half their time working at her office, about a mile away from the base.

At the same time one of the nearby credit unions lost power, which increased anxiety of her employees, Arnold Jones said.

“I still don’t know why the power was out,” Arnold-Jones said. “I’ve sent people home for the day.”
