The 3rd Congressional District is New Mexico’s most Democratic-leaning district. The seat has only briefly been held by a Republican, when Bill Redmond won a special election when Bill Richardson left his seat in Congress to become Ambassador to the United Nations.
Ben Ray Luján won the seat in a three-way race which included a strong green party candidate in 2006.
