New Mexico is the site for dozens of government programs and private firms that constitute part of the federal government’s vast intelligence-gathering and sharing operation, according to an interactive database assembled by the Washington Post for a series running this week called Top Secret America.
Albuquerque has the most number of government and private-sector operations in New Mexico, with 13 government work and private sector work locations, according to the Washington Post database.
The series took more than a year for reporters to complete, and examines the mushrooming world of intelligence in post-9/11 America. The series tracks the growth of federal budgets and the accompanying explosion of government programs and contracts with private firms that make up the vast network of operations.
