U.S. judge stops federal dollars to embryonic stem cell research

A federal judge issued an injunction Monday to stop federal funding of human embryonic stem cell research, Reuters news service reports.

The injunction halts — at least temporarily — an Obama administration policy to fund the research.

The U.S. district court judge sided with plaintiffs who filed a suit in June to stop the funding. Those who filed the suit said the funding of embryonic stem cell research led to the destruction of human embryos. Christian groups had opposed the research.
