Generic ballot now tied at 46%

This is why you should always take surprising polls with a grain of salt. Just last week, we reported that Republicans had a major national advantage over Democrats, according to Gallup’s “generic ballot” poll. But today Gallup says the parties are tied at 46 percent.

The Gallup “generic ballot” poll asks respondents if they would rather vote for an unnamed Democrat or Republican for Congress. Last week’s Republican lead of 10 points was the largest since Gallup has been asking the question.
