Susana Martinez has received a $500,000 donation from the Republican Governor’s Association, The Washington Post reported today. The group, tasked with electing Republicans to gubernatorial offices around the country, previously donated $250,000 to Martinez’s campaign.

Washington Post political analyst Chris Cillizza called the large donation “the latest sign that national GOP strategists believe that they have a genuine pickup opportunity in the Land of Enchantment.”

He also said the large donations “should serve as a reminder to inside-the-Beltway types just how important governors races this fall are to both national parties.”

The last quarterly report by the RGA, in July, showed that the the RGA had a $9 million cash-on-hand advantage over their Democratic counterparts, the Democratic Governor’s Association. The DGA is currently airing ads against Martinez and have donated nearly $190,000 to Democratic candidate Diane Denish.
