Roughly one quarter of University of New Mexico students are unimpressed with the state’s flagship public school, according to a survey that questioned college students about their higher education experiences.
Democratic Rep. Harry Teague has released a new ad criticizing his Republican opponent, Steve Pearce, for opposing “increases in health care and G.I. benefits for veterans” as well as “a $1,500 pay bonus for our troops.” The ad cites specific votes for each of the statements.
The ad also says “Pearce took more than $46,000 in congressional pay raises.” These pay raises are automatically given to members of Congress unless members specifically vote against them. Pearce voted against the pay raises, but was not in the majority.
Over the past two years, Congress has been successful blocking the pay raises. Teague cosponsored a bill to cut congressional pay by 5 percent, but the bill never made it out of committee.
