The U.S. Senate on Thursday approved the Small Business Jobs Act, a $42 billion bill aimed helping create jobs through tax breaks and by making it easier for small businesses to get loans through small, community banks.
It also includes contains a provision written by Sen. Jeff Bingaman that would give tax credits to self-employed Americans who buy their own health insurance.
Bingaman and Sen. Tom Udall voted in favor of the bill, which passed by a vote of 61-38. The bill now heads to the House of Representatives, which had previously passed a version of the bill. After it clears the House, President Obama is expected to sign the bill into law.
