A majority of Americans support gay marriage, shows an Associated Press poll released this week. According to the poll, 52 percent of Americans said yes when asked: “Should the federal government give legal recognition to marriages between couples of the same-sex, or not?” That’s up six points from last year.
This was the second poll to show majority support for gay marriage; a CNN poll in August showed 52 percent agreed that “gays and lesbians have a constitutional right to get married and have their marriage recognized by law as valid.”
The AP poll was conducted August 11 –August 16, 2010 with 1,007 participants. The margin of error is +/- 4.5 percentage points.
