A U.S. Border Patrol official has told New Mexico lawmakers that the state’s border with Mexico is the most secure he’s seen in his three decades working with the agency,” the Associated Press is reporting.

But advocates for immigration rights are worried that the intense focus on enforcement has led to more civil rights violations, according to the wire service.

“Members of the state Legislature’s Courts, Corrections and Justice Interim Committee heard from the groups and the border patrol official Thursday at the start of a two-day meeting in Las Cruces.”
