Internal poll says Denish/Martinez race tied

By | 09.27.10 | 5:29 pm

A poll commissioned by the Democratic Governor’s Association, which is supporting Diane Denish in the race for governor, shows that the race between Denish and Martinez is tied, with each candidate getting 46 percent of the vote.

That result is in contrast to a Daily Kos poll, released today, showing that Martinez is 8 points ahead.

Generally, the DGA poll, conducted by Third Eye Strategies, shines a much more favorable light on Denish’s chances. That’s to be expected from what’s called an “internal poll,” which campaigns and supporters usually only release if they like the results.

Here are some key differences in the two polls released today:

  • The DGA poll shows Martinez with less support from Democrats
  • Denish has much more support (13 points more) from Hispanics than the Daily Kos/PPP poll showed
  • The Daily Kos poll showed more voters have a favorable opinion of Martinez than Denish; the DGA poll shows them equal
