Abruzzo’s wife told CBS this afternoon that he made one last radio call, saying he was preparing for an emergency landing in the water off the Italian coast.
Abruzzo and his copilot Carol Rymer Davis were competing in the Gordon Bennett Gas Balloon Race when they lost contact with authorities Wednesday morning.
“[Johnson] continues to follow updates on the search for Abruzzo and Davis, and remains hopeful for their safe return,” his spokeswoman said.
