Lewis keeps big fundraising lead over Schoonover in State Treasurer race

Democratic State Treasurer incumbent James Lewis kept his big campaign cash advantage over Republican challenger Jim Schoonover, according to the latest campaign finance reports filed by both candidates.

Lewis raised $17,701.67 to bring his total cash on hand to $26,716.02, while Schoonover raised just $1,330 and has $458.84 cash on hand.

Lewis spent just $3,853.16 in the campaign finance period covering Sept. 6 through Oct. 4 while Schoonover spent just $1,411.55

Schoonover’s largest donations were three $200 contributions given by American Transportation, a Socorro company; Garrey Carruthers, the former New Mexico governor; and Mary Lipinski of Las Cruces.

Lewis’ largest donation was $2,500 from Albuquerque attorney Robert White.

Schoonover’s biggest expenditure was to himself. He paid himself $500 for reimbursement for “website & Facebook work paid out.”

Lewis’ largest expenditure was $1,960.78 to Wayne Scheiner & Co for Palm card printing.
