Rep. Martin Heinrich raised $590,000 in the third quarter while his opponent raised $470,000 in the third of 2010 according to campaign finance reports filed with the Federal Elections Commission.
In that same time, Heinrich spent about $830,000 while Barela spent about $400,000.
Despite spending more than twice as much as Barela in the third quarter, Heinrich still maintains a hefty cash on hand advantage. Heinrich has slightly more than a million dollars cash on hand while Barela has about $570,000.
Today is the deadline for filing campaign finance reports for the period between July 1 and September 30. This includes all donations and expenditures from the candidates’ campaign committees.
Barela has been aided by spending from outside groups, however. Outside groups have spent more than $750,000 in independent expenditures opposing Heinrich. Outside groups have spent just $116,000 opposing Barela.
