As we reported last night, two Albuquerque women said they were visited Wednesday by a private investigator who identified himself as Al Romero and said he worked for Republican attorney Pat Rogers. Is he the private investigator Rogers referred to last week when he said the state GOP had hired a private investigator to look into vote fraud?
According to the New Mexico Regulation and Licensing Department, there is one Alfredo Romero with a private investigator’s license.
Romero gave his phone number to one of the women he contacted earlier this week and I called this morning to verify that he’s working for the GOP. But I couldn’t get any answers.
When he answered the phone I asked for Alfredo Romero, gave my name and said I was calling from the New Mexico Independent.
“Uh, this is not Al Romero,” the man said. “He’s on a job site right now. Can I take a message?”
When I asked “With whom am I speaking?” he said, “Hello? Hello? Hello?” about five times and then hung up.
I called back and got what sounded like the exact same voice saying, “You have reached the voicemail of Alfredo Romero.”
I left a message but have not yet heard back.
