Denish internal poll shows race nearly tied

By | 10.25.10 | 2:14 pm

An internal poll conducted for the campaign of Diane Denish shows that the race between Denish and Republican Susana Martinez is essentially tied. The poll’s results show that Martinez is ahead by just 1 percent, 46 percent to 45 percent.

No independent poll has put the gap closer than 5 percent since June.

The polling memo, embedded below, from Democratic pollster Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research finds that there is a “significant consolidation with self identifying Democrats who now support Denish 84 [percent] – 11 percent and Hispanic Democrats who now support Denish 83 [percent] – 11 percent.”

Democrats outnumber Republicans in the state.

The Denish campaign credits the TV ads, “two strong TV debate performances” and former President Bill Clinton’s visit as some of the reasons they believe that the race has tightened.

The last poll by Greenberg Quinlar Rosner that was released by the Denish campaign on October 4 showed Martinez leading 49 percent to 46 percent.

The poll of 603 likely voters was conducted from October 20-24 and has a margin of error of +/- 4 percent.

We, like most other news outlets, take internal polls with a grain of salt.
