Martinez will win the governor’s race, Sanderoff, MSNBC project

Brian Sanderoff and NBC News have projected that Republican Susana Martinez will win the race for governor.

Sanderoff, a respected pollster who does the Albuquerque Journal poll, made the call on KOAT-TV a few minutes ago.

Meanwhile a big cheer went up at the GOP watch party at the Albuquerque Hilton when Republican state party chairman Harvey Yates told the crowd that NBC was also projecting that the Dona Ana County prosecutor would win the race.

The projections came early on Election Night, only an hour and a half after New Mexico polls had closed. But they weren’t a big surprise. Martinez has led Democratic Lt. Gov. Diane Denish for months in voter surveys.
