Richardson thanks state workers

Gov. Bill Richardson sent out an e-mail thanking state workers for their hard work over his term. Richardson highlighted some of the successes under his administration, including new domestic violence laws, cutting DWIs and health care legislation.

“These accomplishments would not be possible without the dedication and hard work from state employees,” the e-mail read. “I appreciate your contributions and hope you share my optimism for the future of our great state.”

Richardson also mentioned the budget cuts that marked the final two years of his administration as the nation-wide recession hit New Mexico. “Despite the tough times, I did everything possible to minimize the effect of our budget cuts on people. Rather than state employee lay-offs or cutting classroom programs, we have collectively done more with less,” Richardson wrote.

Friday will be Richardson’s final full day in office. Governor-elect Susana Martinez will be sworn into office on Saturday.
