Republican senatorial candidate Heather Wilson has taken the Americans for Tax Reform pledge against any tax raises, her campaign announced Monday. Wilson, a former U.S. representative, is the first top-tier Republican candidate to enter the Senate race.
“We don’t have a revenue problem in the federal government; we have a spending problem,” Wilson said. “Government cannot create wealth, but it can create the conditions for small businesses and entrepreneurs to invest and create jobs. That means low taxes and fair regulations.”
The pledge says that Wilson will “oppose any and all efforts to increase the marginal income tax rates for individuals and/or businesses … and oppose any net reduction or elimination of deductions and credits, unless matched dollar for dollar by further reducing tax rates.”
Currently, 41 senators have signed the pledge.
President Barack Obama has pledged not to extend the Bush-era tax cuts for those who make over $250,000 per year.
