Bush press secretary Ari Fleischer endorses Wilson

By | 05.27.11 | 7:48 am

George W. Bush press secretary Ari Fleischer endorsed Heather Wilson’s Senate campaign Thursday. Fleischer has ties to New Mexico: He was once the press secretary for Sen. Pete Domenici.

“Heather Wilson’s strong conservative record and background in national defense make her the most qualified person to serve New Mexico in the U.S. Senate,” Fleischer said. “I know that from day one in the Senate, Heather will lead the charge to get our financial house in order and to repeal and replace Obamacare. I’m proud to endorse her candidacy today.”

Fleischer was the press secretary for President Bush from 2001 until 2003. He previously served as the press secretary from 1989 to 2004.

The campaign also announced that Fleischer will attend a “special fundraiser for Wilson” on June 14.

Domenici, who endorsed Wilson in her 2008 Senate run, has already endorsed Wilson.

Wilson will face Lt. Gov. John Sanchez in the Republican primary. Other announced Republican primary candidates are businessman Greg Sowards and columnist William S. English.

On the Democratic side, U.S. Rep. Martin Heinrich and State Auditor Hector Balderas have announced their candidacies.
