The Bureau of Labor Statistics jobs report released Friday morning shows that New Mexico had the largest decline in unemployment from April to May, registering at 6.9 percent, down from 7.6 percent.
Unemployment one year ago in the state was at 8.3 percent. Twenty-four states had decreased unemployment, thirteen had rate increases, and thirteen registered no change.
However, New Mexico actually lost jobs in the past month — overall payroll jobs declined slightly from 804,600 to 801,400, meaning there are fewer people in the labor force looking for work.
